With a limited budget and only one subscription, Gorden Sun recommends Claude Pro at $20 a month: top-tier models and plenty of quota, about on par with the $100 ChatGPT plan.

For heavy coding, look at quotas: Kazik tested both at the $200 tier, finding Claude's weekly quota is worth about $3,400 in API value, while Codex's is about $1,700, and he finds Claude far more durable.

Some also prefer GPT: Baoyu says GPT-6 Astra has a great development experience and Computer Use works well, and he even complains that Fable is too expensive; another tweet cites a leaderboard saying that paired with Codex, its cost is about half that of the runner-up.

If you don't want to choose just one, Phyrex has ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok do the same task together and cross-check each other to reduce hallucinations, and the ChatGPT desktop app can also take over your computer to handle files.
